Montefico is one of the nine single-cru Riservas the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative bottles only in strong vintages, aged in large oak casks. Next to Montestefano, it is the most austere and mineral wine of the set: sour cherry and red currant, dried rose and tar, with a stony, herbal edge, high acidity and tight, firm tannins. Reserved when young, it gains depth and savoury complexity over two decades in bottle.
