Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, high acidity, dry

Fontanafredda's Barolo Riserva is a selection from the historic estate's best vineyards: La Rosa and La Delizia in Serralunga d'Alba and La Villa in Barolo. It is 100% Nebbiolo, given the five-year Riserva ageing, much of it in large oak. It is a classic, firmly built Barolo. On the nose are dried marasca cherry, strawberry, orange peel and liquorice, with autumn leaves and spiced black tea. The palate has dusty, assertive tannin, refreshing acidity and a leathery, slightly austere finish. It asks for rich, slow-cooked dishes and a few more years in bottle to soften.
