Prosecco Rosé is a very recent addition to the category — the rules permitting it only came into force with the 2020 harvest, after decades in which Prosecco could only be white. It is Glera with between ten and fifteen per cent Pinot Nero, must be vintage-dated, and requires a longer tank fermentation than the white version. Ruggeri is a well-regarded house in Valdobbiadene, in the steep hills at the quality heart of the zone; Argeo is their accessible line. Expect strawberry and raspberry with white peach and a floral lift, a soft frothy mousse rather than a fine bead, and a gently off-dry finish. Made to be drunk as young as possible — the freshness is the entire proposition.
