Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry
A single-vineyard Amarone from Masi, drawn from Campolongo di Torbe — a high, steep site in the Classico heartland, and one the house has bottled separately since the 1950s. Amarone is made by appassimento: the grapes are dried on racks for months before fermenting, concentrating sugar so far that the finished wine reaches formidable alcohol while staying dry. Corvina leads, with Rondinella and Molinara. Dried black cherry and fig with dark chocolate, tobacco, leather and warm spice, and the bitter-almond twist the local varieties always leave — amarone means "the bitter one", and that finish is where the name comes from. Full-bodied and enveloping, with substantial ripe tannin. A wine for cold evenings, slow-cooked meat and strong cheese rather than a summer table. Ages for decades. Decant it well ahead.
Serving: Serve at 16–18 °C.
