Vietti's Castiglione is called the estate's "classic" Barolo but it is not a junior one — it is assembled from parcels across several communes, which lets the house build a complete wine rather than express a single hillside. That breadth shows as balance: Serralunga-style grip underneath, La Morra perfume on top. Pale garnet in the glass, as good Nebbiolo always is, with tar, dried rose and sour cherry giving way to truffle, liquorice and dried herbs as it ages. Bracing acidity and firm, fine tannin make it a wine that wants food and rewards a long decant.
