Vietti's Barbera comes from three vineyards — the name refers to them — and it is the benchmark for what the grape does when a serious Barolo house takes it seriously. Barbera has almost no tannin and a great deal of acidity, which makes it juicy and refreshing where Nebbiolo is austere; here a spell in oak adds a rounding note of vanilla and sweet spice without burying the fruit. Expect ripe red cherry and blackberry with a violet lift and a long, bright finish. Versatile at the table and best drunk within a few years, though it holds longer than its reputation suggests.
