The third of Prophet's Rock's single-vineyard Pinots, first bottled separately from the 2023 vintage and made in tiny quantity — around ten barrels. Unlike the Home Vineyard and Olearia it comes not from Bendigo but from Kopuwai Delta in Pisa, a terrace above the Clutha River at 225 metres on very fine schist gravels laced with loess, quartz and rounded river stones, the recipient of every glacial deposit in the area. Wild fermented in small open-top vats with around a quarter whole bunches, then roughly seventeen months in French oak with little new wood, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Lighter and more immediately open than the Bendigo wines without being fruity: pomegranate, pink peppercorn and waxy strawberry over pressed flowers, green olive and crushed rock, with fine sandy tannins and a saline, faintly iodine finish. Named for the kōwhai tree that flowers across the site.
