Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Pieropan, the Soave family estate, also farms organically in the Valpolicella, and its Amarone Riserva comes from the Vigna (Monte) Garzon vineyard. Corvina-based grapes are dried for months before fermentation, then the wine ages about four years in large tonneaux and some barriques, plus a further year in bottle. It is powerful, around 16.5% alcohol, yet balanced: dried cherry, fig and raisin with dark chocolate, tobacco and sweet spice, on firm, ripe tannins. It ages for well over a decade.
