A vintage-dated fortified in the declared-port idiom, and quite distinct from Rutherglen's Muscat and Topaque despite coming from the same place. Where those are blended across years and aged oxidatively in cask, this is a single year's fruit fortified young and bottled with its tannin and primary fruit intact, so it evolves slowly in bottle rather than in wood. Young it is dense and black-fruited with chocolate and a warm spirit lift over firm tannin; over two or three decades that resolves into dried fig, walnut and spice with the spirit knitted in. It throws a deposit as it ages, so decant it off the sediment. Small glasses, and something like a good blue cheese or dark chocolate beside it.
