Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, medium acidity, sweet

Rare is the top rung of Rutherglen's four-tier fortified classification, requiring an average blend age of at least twenty years, and Morris hold some of the oldest and most revered stocks in the region — a solera reaching back generations, where a few drops of very ancient material transform the whole. Muscat à Petits Grains Rouge picked raisined, fortified, then aged oxidatively in old wood through decades of fierce inland heat, concentrating by evaporation until it is almost opaque and viscous enough to cling to the glass. Raisin, treacle, coffee, orange peel and old wood, intensely sweet, with an acidity that somehow keeps it from cloying. This does not age or decline in any ordinary sense. Pour it in very small glasses.
