An old tawny in the Rutherglen idiom, and Morris have been at Rutherglen since 1859 with some of the deepest fortified stocks in the region. Grand is the third rung of the four-tier classification — Rutherglen, Classic, Grand, Rare — requiring a substantially older average blend age than Classic, so the wine carries a real weight of aged material. Years in old wood through north-east Victoria's hot summers concentrate it by evaporation as much as anything: amber-brown and viscous, with walnut, dried fig, toffee and orange peel over a warm spirit line. Oxidative by design, so it neither improves nor declines meaningfully once bottled, and an opened bottle keeps for months. Small glasses, with hard cheese or something nutty.
