Kadette Cape Blend is Kanonkop's second-tier red. It is a Stellenbosch Cape Blend led by Pinotage with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, plus small amounts of Cabernet Franc and, in some years, Petit Verdot. The 2021 is 39% Pinotage, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, and the 2019 was 44/25/29/2 without Petit Verdot. Expect raspberry, dark cherry and plum with cinnamon and clove spice and a hint of chocolate. The tannins are supple and the acidity fresh. It drinks well young and holds for around five to eight years from vintage.
