Casanova di Neri is a Montalcino name built on Brunello, and this Toscana IGT is what the estate does when it is not working to those rules: roughly nine parts Sangiovese to one of Colorino, the old Tuscan blending grape that lends colour and a peppery edge. Aged in wood but briefly, it keeps the house signature — sour cherry and red plum, violet lift, dried herbs and a tobacco-and-earth savouriness — in a lighter, quicker-drinking frame than the Brunellos. High acidity and moderate, slightly dusty tannin make it a natural with Tuscan food rather than a wine to sip alone. This bottling is a batch selected for a Swiss merchant; the wine is the estate's Toscana Rosso.
