R.D. (récemment dégorgé, recently disgorged) is Bollinger's late-disgorged vintage cuvée: the same base wine as La Grande Année, about two-thirds Pinot Noir and a third Chardonnay from Grand and Premier Cru villages, fermented in oak and left on its lees for eight years or more before disgorgement, then given a low Extra Brut dosage. The long lees ageing shows in toasted brioche, smoke and hazelnut layered over citrus and dried-apricot fruit, with honeyed depth and the taut, precise acidity of a great Champagne year.
