Petit Verdot

**Petit Verdot** is a red grape from Bordeaux, traditionally a minor blending component that adds colour, tannin and aromatic lift to Cabernet-based wines. Its name reflects its small, late-ripening berries. **In the glass** — deeply coloured, almost inky, with aromas of blackberry, violet, dried herbs and spice; the palate is full bodied with firm tannin, good acidity and a dense, structured feel. **Where it grows** — in Bordeaux it plays a supporting role in the Médoc, where it ripens reliably only in warm vintages, but in sunnier climates such as California, Spain, Australia and Argentina it increasingly stands alone as a bold varietal wine. **At the table** — pairs well with braised beef, venison and rich, spiced dishes. **Cellaring** — its tannin and structure make it well suited to ageing for several years or more.
