Cinsault

**Cinsault** is a red grape long grown in France's Languedoc, valued for its soft, fruity charm and its role in blends and rosés across the Mediterranean. **In the glass** — a pale-to-medium red with fresh red-cherry and strawberry fruit, a floral hint and gentle spice. It is light-bodied with low, supple tannins and moderate acidity, making for easy, aromatic drinking. **Where it grows** — it is a traditional blending partner in the southern Rhône and Languedoc, softening firmer grapes like Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, and is a mainstay of Provençal rosé. Heat-tolerant, it also grows in South Africa, where it is a parent of Pinotage, as well as in Lebanon and North Africa. **At the table** — pairs happily with grilled vegetables, charcuterie and light summer fare. **Cellaring** — best enjoyed young, while its fresh fruit and floral character are at their liveliest.
