Grown at around 2,000 metres above Cafayate in Salta's Calchaquí Valleys, where fierce ultraviolet light and huge day-to-night temperature swings build thick skins and formidable tannin — Malbec here is a very different animal from Mendoza's, darker and more brooding. This is the estate's approachable bottling alongside the flagship Yacochuya, made with Michel Rolland's long involvement, and it shows blackberry and dried fig over pepper, leather and cocoa. Powerful and dry with a firm tannic grip that wants either food or time.
