Veuve Clicquot Rosé is built on the Yellow Label blend — Pinot Noir-dominant, with Chardonnay and Meunier — drawn from 50 to 60 crus and up to 45% reserve wines, then completed with around 12% still Pinot Noir red wine at assemblage. That red wine is the point: it gives the coppery colour and a depth and grip the Yellow Label doesn't have. Expect a red-berry and cherry core over the house's biscuit-and-toast character from lees ageing, with citrus peel and a touch of spice, held together by crisp acidity. Fuller and fruitier than the Yellow Label, and a genuine food champagne. The method is Madame Clicquot's own: in 1818 she was the first to make rosé champagne by blending in red wine rather than colouring it with elderberries.
