Old vines planted between 1991 and 1995 on the block bordering Felton Road, including a single clone — 777 — put in the ground in Bannockburn's first years, with original roots reaching down through lakebed loam into schist gravels. Named for an 1860s raconteur who claimed the land during the gold rush. This is the classic structural expression of Bannockburn: dark-fruited and finely built, layered black cherry and plum with subtle spice, tannins that are firm but polished, and real length. Wild fermented and handled with restraint. Precise and poised rather than showy, with the concentration and balance to reward cellaring. Around 300 cases; James Suckling gave the 2024 99 points.
