Tahbilk have farmed at Nagambie Lakes since 1860, and the site is unusual for inland Victoria — a network of waterways moderates the climate and keeps the nights cool, which is why the wines hold structure and savour rather than turning jammy in the regional heat. Dark plum and blackberry with black pepper, dried herb, licorice and an earthy depth. Medium-full with firm tannin and a long acid line. The house style is deliberately traditional: austere in youth, and it ages into leather and earth rather than fading.
