Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry

La Vizcaína is Raúl Pérez's Bierzo project for single-site wines, named for what Valtuille's villagers called his late father. El Rapolao is a field-blend vineyard on the Lomas de Valtuille, mostly Mencía with some Garnacha Tintorera (Alicante Bouschet) and Bastardo (Trousseau), fermented with whole clusters and aged up to eleven months in barrel. Fresh and energetic: red cherry and blackberry with violet, pepper, wild herbs and an earthy note, on fine, slightly dry tannins. It ages well for a decade.
