La Vitoriana is one of Raúl Pérez's single-plot wines from Valtuille de Abajo under his La Vizcaína label: a one-hectare field blend planted in the 1920s on sandy red clay, overwhelmingly Mencía with a little Bastardo. Fermented without temperature control and aged about ten months in used French oak, it is deeper in colour than its Lomas de Valtuille siblings — blackberry and sour cherry with violet, wild herbs and a stony, peppery edge, fine but firm tannins and bright acidity. Among the most serious wines of Bierzo, with the structure to age.
