The Wahluke Slope is an AVA in central Washington, a large south-facing bench above the Columbia River in the rain shadow of the Cascades. Conditions are extreme and unusually reliable: desert-dry, entirely dependent on irrigation, very warm by day and sharply cold at night. That diurnal swing is the key — it ripens Cabernet fully while preserving acidity, giving wines that are dark and generous but keep a firm structural line. Expect blackcurrant and black cherry with cocoa, cedar and a graphite edge, full-bodied, with ripe firm tannins. Washington Cabernet generally sits between Napa's opulence and Bordeaux's restraint, and the Wahluke Slope is at the riper end of that range without losing the acidity.
