Gualtallary sits at the top of the Uco Valley, the highest and stoniest of Mendoza's sub-regions, with limestone in the soil and vineyards climbing past 1,300 metres — the site that has done most to change what Argentine wine is thought capable of. This blend is co-fermented rather than blended after the fact, which integrates the two varieties more completely. Black plum and violet from the Malbec, graphite, dried herb and a savoury lift from the Cabernet Franc, over dark chocolate and black pepper. Full-bodied with firm, polished tannin and the bright acidity altitude preserves.
