Dr. Loosen's Erdener Treppchen Alte Reben is a dry VDP.Grosses Gewächs from old, ungrafted vines on the Treppchen's iron-rich red slate in Erden. It is fermented with natural yeasts in large old casks and kept on its lees for a year or more, and the estate holds it back before release. Treppchen gives a spicier, more powerful Riesling than the blue-slate sites downstream: yellow peach, orange peel and lime over a smoky red-slate core, with firm acidity and a long, dry finish. It is built to age for a decade or more.
