Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry
Château Vannières is one of Bandol's reference estates, run by the Boisseaux family, and its red is a Mourvèdre-led blend with Grenache and Cinsault, raised for about two years in large foudres and barrels. Young, it is dense and tannic, with dark berry fruit, licorice and wild Provençal herbs; with long bottle age it turns savoury and complex, with leather, game, tobacco and earth over still-firm fruit. Hugh Johnson and Robert Parker have both called it among the longest-lived wines of Provence.
