Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, medium acidity, sweet
A sweet white Monbazillac from Château le Barradis, on the slopes of Monbazillac across the Dordogne from Bergerac. Monbazillac is made like Sauternes, from Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, picked in successive passes once noble rot has concentrated the grapes. After decades in bottle the colour turns deep amber and the fruit moves from apricot and honey to marmalade, caramel, candied peel and nutty, saffron-tinged complexity. The sweetness becomes more integrated with age.
