Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, high tannin, high acidity, dry

Chianti Classico is the historic heart of the zone between Florence and Siena, and Riserva requires at least two years' ageing before release — which is what gives these wines their integration. Sangiovese leads, as the appellation demands. Sour cherry and red plum with leather, tobacco, balsamic herb, dried oregano and cedary oak. Medium-bodied with firm, dusty tannin and the bright acid spine that makes Sangiovese one of the great food grapes. Savoury rather than sweet-fruited, and it turns more cedary and tertiary with age.

Serving: Serve at 15–17 °C.
