A Grosses Gewächs from the Forster Kirchenstück, a small walled vineyard behind Forst's church, long regarded as the finest Riesling site in the Pfalz. Made by Weingut von Winning in Deidesheim with spontaneous fermentation and partial oak for texture. Refined and layered rather than loud: white peach, apricot and citrus peel with white flowers, a wet-stone minerality and a smoky edge, on a dry, tightly wound frame of great length. One of Germany's most age-worthy dry whites; it needs several years to unfold. Serve at 10–12°C, decanted when young, with noble fish, shellfish or white meat.
