The Corsini family bought this estate at San Casciano Val di Pesa in 1363, and in the early seventeenth century Bartolomeo Corsini commissioned the painter and architect Santi di Tito to build the villa and its cellars. Duccio Corsini has run it since 1992: 230 hectares of which only fifty are vines and sixty-three olives, the rest left as woodland for biodiversity, farmed organically and biodynamically. Le Corti is the estate's annata, the everyday face of the range beneath Cortevecchia and Don Tommaso: 95% Sangiovese with a little Colorino, from hillside parcels at 220 to 300 metres facing mostly south, on stony ground of white river pebbles and brown clay. Twelve months in concrete rather than oak, then at least three in bottle. Luminous, near-transparent ruby, with fresh cherry and raspberry, clear violet florals, humus and dried herbs, and the faint ferrous note the estate calls the signature of San Casciano Sangiovese. Juicy and fine-boned.
