Barbera is Piedmont's everyday red and one of the more sensible alternative varieties to plant in a warm, humid region — it holds high acidity almost regardless of ripeness, and carries very little tannin, which gives it a fresh, juicy shape rather than a structural one. Sour cherry and red plum with dried herb, a touch of licorice and a savoury finish. Medium-bodied, bright and food-shaped. Good served slightly cool, and versatile with anything tomato-based.
