Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, high tannin, high acidity, dry

Vigna Barbagalli is Pietradolce's flagship: a single plot of pre-phylloxera, ungrafted Nerello Mascalese bush vines, many over a century old, in contrada Rampante near Solicchiata, high on Etna's north slope at about 900 metres. Aged in French oak, it is a deep and serious Etna: sour cherry, wild strawberry and blood orange with dried rose, sweet spice and an ashy volcanic savour. Its fine but insistent tannin and high acidity give it real ageing capacity.

Serving: Serve at 15–17 °C.
