Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry

Calcagno is a small family winery at Passopisciaro on Etna's north slope. Its Calderara comes from a small plot in contrada Calderara, a celebrated cru near Randazzo on black pumice and basalt from ancient lava flows. Nerello Mascalese gives a translucent but intense red: red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate with dried herbs, pepper and a smoky volcanic savour, fine tannin and bright acidity.

Serving: Serve at 15–17 °C.
