Old Paddock was planted in 1921 and Old Hill in 1880, making them among the oldest Shiraz blocks in the Hunter Valley, and this wine blends the two. The Hunter style is its own thing entirely — medium-bodied, moderate in alcohol, savoury rather than sweet-fruited, and long-lived out of all proportion to its weight. Red plum and dark cherry with earth, dried herb, leather and a gamey note that deepens with time, over fine powdery tannin. A wine of texture and persistence rather than power.
