Tasting profile
Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, high acidity, dry
Podere Le Bèrne's Riserva comes from its oldest vineyard, the south-facing Casa plot on clay at Cervognano, Montepulciano. It is Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile) with a small share of Colorino, organically farmed, fermented with native yeasts and aged about 30 months, partly in large Slavonian oak casks and partly in French barriques. It is a traditional, dark-fruited Vino Nobile: plum and black cherry over savoury herbs, earth and an iron-like mineral streak, with firm tannins and bright acidity that need time in bottle.
