Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, medium acidity, dry
La Trace is a Languedoc white bottled under the name of François-Alain, a Belgian négociant and importer, as IGP Pays d'Oc. It is an unusual blend of about 60% Chardonnay with 20% each of Viognier and Roussanne, fermented and aged in 500-litre casks, larger than standard barriques, so the oak frames the fruit rather than dominating it. Expect a rounded, fairly generous southern white with stone fruit, honey and vanilla, built for the table rather than for long cellaring.

Where it comes from
Languedoc, France
Languedoc is a vast wine region sweeping along France's Mediterranean coast in the south, from the Rhône delta toward the Spanish border.
Chardonnay
Chardonnay is a white grape from Burgundy that has spread to nearly every wine-growing region on earth, prized for its versatility and its ability to reflect both terroir and the winemaker's hand.
Viognier
Viognier is a white grape from the northern Rhône Valley in France, long the signature of the tiny appellation Condrieu and a variety that came close to disappearing before a revival spread it far beyond its Rhône home.
Roussanne
Roussanne is a white grape from France's northern Rhône, often partnered with Marsanne to make some of the region's most distinguished whites.
