Felton Road's Bannockburn Riesling, drawn more broadly across the estate than the single-block bottling and made the same way — hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed, indigenous ferment stopped by chilling to leave the sugar in place, around 9% alcohol and roughly 60 g/L of residual sweetness. Medium sweet on paper and rarely so in the glass, because Central Otago's dramatic day-night swings build the kind of acidity that carries sugar without letting it settle. Crisp lime and green apple lead, with ginger, tangerine and tropical florals behind and a flinty, mineral backbone from Bannockburn's schist. It has been known to taste drier than Block 1 despite carrying similar sugar. Purity and lightness are the point rather than power. Serve cold and treat it as a food wine, particularly with anything spiced.
