The blend is an equal three-way split of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which is the point of it: the Sangiovese supplies acidity and a savoury cherry core, the Cabernet structure and cassis, the Merlot flesh through the middle. Made in Umbria, the landlocked green heart of Italy, under the broad regional designation rather than a named DOC. Expect black cherry and plum with cocoa, sweet spice and a touch of vanilla oak, medium to full-bodied with smooth ripe tannins.
