The Magnolia vineyard sits in a Vine Vale gully at 305 to 335 metres, where three winter streams converge and deep granitic sands let the estate dry-grow the site in most years. A gum-lined hill shields it from the afternoon sun, and the local cooling wind — the Vine Vale doctor — drops temperatures sharply overnight. The result defies the Barossa stereotype: this Shiraz is detailed and lifted rather than broad. Blackberry and dark plum with violet, cured meat, black pepper and garrigue herb. Medium-full with fine tannin and real length.
