The Krondorf vineyard is the second of the estate's two home sites, at the foot of Kaiser Stuhl and High Eden where local gully winds cool the landscape rapidly and keep disease pressure low. The soil is a terra rossa-like sandy loam over heavy red clay with calcareous material at depth, which holds moisture tightly and gives powerfully fruited wines. This is the Shiraz off the site. Dark berry and plum with black pepper, violet, dried herb and a savoury edge. Medium-full with fine tannin — depth without the weight the region often brings.
