Malvazija Istarska is Istria's native white and the peninsula's signature grape, grown on the red terra rossa and white limestone soils either side of the Croatian-Slovenian border. In its unoaked form it gives green apple, pear and acacia blossom over a faintly bitter almond finish and a saline, mineral edge that reflects the maritime climate. Medium-bodied and dry with high acidity, and more textured than most Mediterranean whites — there is a waxy weight to the palate that rewards food.
