Istria

**Istria** is a peninsula reaching into the Adriatic Sea in northwestern Croatia, a green, hilly area as famous for its olive oil and truffles as for its wine. **Wines & grapes** — The flagship white is Malvazija Istarska (Istrian Malvasia), which ranges from fresh and floral to richer, skin-contact and barrel-aged styles. The main red is Teran, a deeply coloured, tangy grape, alongside plantings of international varieties. **Character** — A Mediterranean climate tempered by the sea, combined with distinctive red and white soils, gives the wines vibrant acidity and a savoury, mineral quality.
