Tasting profile
Structure: medium-bodied, medium tannin, high acidity, dry
Morgon is the sturdiest of the Beaujolais crus, and La Chanaise sits below the Côte du Py, the decomposed schist hill that gives the appellation its structure and its capacity to age. Gamay here is darker and firmer than elsewhere in Beaujolais: black cherry and raspberry over violet, a peppery lift and an iron-tinged mineral edge. Medium-bodied with fine but real tannin and high acidity. Morgon is the cru that most often gets mistaken for Pinot Noir with a few years on it.
