Joseph

Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Joseph is a Syrah from Domaine Carcenac at Montans, in the Gaillac area, bottled as IGP Côtes du Tarn because Syrah alone is not permitted as AOC Gaillac. From 20- to 35-year-old vines cropped at about 35 hl/ha, it is cold-macerated and aged around 16 months in ovoid concrete vats. Bright ruby-purple, with a powerful nose of black fruit and a structured, full-bodied palate of ripe blackcurrant. The producer suggests up to 15 years of ageing; serve at 16–18 °C with red meat or spiced dishes.
