Braucol

Tasting profile

Structure: full-bodied, high tannin, medium acidity, dry

Domaine Carcenac's Braucol is a pure Fer Servadou (known locally as Braucol), the signature red grape of Gaillac, from 20- to 35-year-old vines on clay and gravel at Montans, cropped at about 35 hl/ha. It is aged around 16 months in barrique, giving a powerful, full-bodied red with black fruit, toasty oak, undergrowth and the variety's peppery spice over firm tannin. Young vintages show pronounced oak that needs several years to integrate. A wine for red meat, game and the hearty food of south-west France.
