Tasting profile

Structure: medium-bodied, low tannin, medium acidity, dry

Concha y Toro's Casillero del Diablo Reserva Carmenère, the mass-market Chilean bottling of the grape Chile rediscovered in 1994 after a century of mistaking it for Merlot. Around 60% of the wine is aged nine months in French and American oak, the rest in stainless steel. Dark plum and black cherry with the variety's red-pepper note, chocolate, coffee and toasty oak, on soft, smooth tannins. An easygoing everyday red made for drinking within a few years of the vintage.
