Clos Mogador is René Barbier's estate at Gratallops and one of the five wines that revived Priorat in the late 1980s. Old Garnacha and Cariñena on llicorella slate, with Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah in support, farmed biodynamically on terraces too steep for machinery. Dark cherry and blackberry over liquorice, dried herbs, cocoa and a pronounced slate minerality. Full-bodied and powerful with firm tannin, yet held upright by acidity and that stony tension rather than tasting merely heavy — the wine that defined what modern Priorat could be.
