One of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with vineyards spread across several of the appellation's soil types — the famous galets roulés, but also sand and limestone, which is part of why the wine keeps its freshness. Grenache leads, with Syrah and Mourvèdre supplying structure and a savoury edge. Expect red and black cherry, warm garrigue herbs, black pepper and a little liquorice over supple, well-covered tannin, with the generous alcohol carried in balance rather than heat. Rich and open-hearted, and one of the more classically proportioned wines in a commune that can tip into excess.
