Minervois — the Languedoc appellation running along the foothills north of the Aude, and one of the region's more serious reds. Syrah and Grenache with Mourvèdre and Carignan, the last of which is the local backbone: old Carignan vines give structure and a savoury bite that the other three do not. Dark cherry and blackberry with garrigue herb, black pepper, liquorice and a warm stony finish. Full-bodied with firm tannin. A cuvée prestige means selected parcels and oak, so this has more grip than everyday Minervois.
