Cuvée des Générations Gaston-Philippe is Château de la Gardine's top red Châteauneuf-du-Pape, made in roughly equal thirds from old-vine Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, from vines 60 to 90-plus years old on the appellation's rounded stones, limestone and sandy clay. Modern and oak-marked: deep ruby, with vanilla, espresso, nougat, dark cherry and fine herbs on the nose; ripe plum, liquorice and dark red fruit on a full palate with pronounced tannins and a saline, spicy finish.
